When offset printing, artwork is burned onto metal plates. These plates take on ink and press it to rubber rollers, thereby transferring the artwork. The rubber rollers then press against paper, which give you your final print. This is called ‘Offset printing’. The printed image is first ‘Offset’ to rubbers roller before it hits the final piece.
When digital printing, artwork is sent directly to the digital printer where it is RIPped (Raster Image Processing). Meaning, it converts the artwork into something it can understand. The printer then uses static electricity to attract the perfect amount of color toner to the paper. This is then sent through to the fuser where the paper and toner are bonded together.
